From now onwards, a police officer will be present in every police station every day from 11.30 am to 1.30 pm across Assam.

All the district SP offices and the Assam police headquarters will ensure the presence of an officer to interact with the public for help grievance redressal, beginning February 13.

This was decided in a meeting at the Assam police headquarters which was chaired by the newly appointed DGP GP Singh and attended by all the top officers and the SPs of the state.

Several key issues were discussed in the meeting. Issues for the welfare of the personnel were also highlighted.

The meeting decided that all district SPs would put in place a system to ensure that all the personnel working in their jurisdiction get a weekly off mandatorily, except in exigencies. This, however, would not apply to those holding charge posts (including ICs and OCs of OPs and PSs).

“All districts, battalions and organisations, including Assam police headquarters will ensure that pending pension cases are cleared within the next two months and henceforth preparation of pension papers for retiring personnel will begin at least a year before their date of superannuation,” said a statement issued by Assam police.

Separate toilet facilities will be provided for all women personnel in all districts, battalions and organizations of the Assam police.

The nameplate of all personnel should be in the local language or bilingual, so as to ensure better visibility with the people.

The DGP exhorted all officers and personnel to: “Ensure correct and polite behaviour with the people they serve. Give due respect and ensure the dignity of their colleagues across ranks.”

GP Singh, a 1991 batch IPS officer of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre took charge as DGP on February 1 following the retirement of Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta.
