First session of Tripura assembly to begin on March 24

The first session of the newly constituted 13th assembly of Tripura is scheduled to begin on March 24, which will pass a vote on account for the first quarter of the next financial year as an interim arrangement until the full budget is passed.

The assembly secretary said Tripura governor Satyadev Narain Arya has convened the first session of the legislators on March 24 at 11 am under the powers given in Article 174 (1) of the Indian Constitution. The session will elect the speaker and the deputy speaker besides, pursuing other legislative business.

The officials said the newly elected MLAs will be administered oath on March 16 after the Protem speaker takes the oath. This for the first time the state assembly would witness three opposition parties – CPI-M, Congress, and TIPRA Motha against the ruling BJP.

Being the principal opposition with 13 MLAs, TIPRA Motha would get the leader of the opposition although Motha hasn’t yet announced the name of their leader. The CPI-M with 11 MLAs and Congress with 3 MLAs sit in the opposition bench separately in the house against BJP.
