Prodyut Bora’s Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) has announced its decision to merge with the Congress, citing the need for a united opposition to combat the rising levels of hatred and misinformation in India.
LDP chief Prodyut Bora made the announcement on March 20. He expressed his support for the decision of the party members. “Our party, LDP, has taken a decision to merge with the Congress. An overwhelming majority of our party members feel that India needs to build a united opposition to change the blanket of hatred and untruth that has enveloped the country. I bow to their collective decision,” he tweeted.

The LDP, which was founded in 2015, has been a vocal critic of the ruling government and has been advocating for a more united opposition to counter its policies.
Prodyut Bora founded the LDP after leaving the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) where he served as a national executive member. Bora was also the convenor of the national IT cell of the BJP where he was responsible for shaping the IT-related policies of the saffron party.
The founder of IT cell in BJP, in his resignation letter, had accused prime minister Narendra Modi and then party president Amit Shah of subverting democratic traditions in the government and the party.
