Two persons were handed life imprisonment sentence on March 13 for killing of a minor girl in Manipur.

The session judge, Imphal (East), Manipur on March 13 sentenced Ningombam Rome Meitei and Letkhosei Haokip to undergo life imprisonment in a case related to the kidnapping and murder of Lungnila Elizabeth, daughter of Francis Ngajokpa, the then education minister of Manipur in 2003.

The CBI registered a case on March 29, 2004, on the request of the Manipur government and took over the investigation.

It was alleged that Lungnila Elizabeth (aged 8 years), daughter of Francis Ngajokpa, was kidnapped on November 4, 2003, from a school located at Sangaiprou, Imphal West district, where she was studying.

She was found dead on November 12, 2003, inside a gunny bag in a ditch at Tera Sadokpam Leikai, Imphal West district.

After investigation, a chargesheet was filed on December 28, 2007, against four accused.

During the trial, two accused expired. The trial court found the said accused guilty and convicted them.
