OIL India FC, Duliajan won the 69th edition of the Bharat Ratna Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi Trophy for the fifth time. They defeated the first-time finalists United Chirangduar FC 3-1 in the final played at the Nehru Stadium in Guwahati on April 4.

It was Ajanta Rabha who opened the scoring in the very first minute of the game for Chirangduar.

But OIL built up pressure eventually and equalised with a Tupu Brahma header after a free kick in the 13th minute. Then Milan Basumatary gave OIL the lead in the 28th minute.

In the second half, Akrang Narzary doubled the lead with a fine header in the 75th minute to give OIL the coveted trophy for the fifth time.

It was the fifth occasion when OILFC clinched the Bordoloi Trophy football championship title. Earlier they won the trophy in 1990, 2008, 2012 and 2019.

The award ceremony was attended by union minister of state for petroleum and natural gas Rameswar Teli, president of the All India Football Federation Kalyan Chaubey along with Guwahati Sports Association officials and others.

The champion OILFC team received a cash award of Rs 2 lakh and the runners-up United Chirangduar were richer by Rs 1 lakh. Akrang Narzary of OILFC was adjudged the player of the tournament by the Assam Sports Journalists Association. He received the trophy from two veteran journalists Balendra Mohan Chakraborty and Pabitra Gogoi respectively.

There was another best player award in the name of Kanak Bordoloi which was handed over to Milan Basumatary by senior journalist Pranoy Bordoloi. The best goalkeeper trophy of the meet was collected by Abinash Mech of OILFC.
