Union home minister Amit Shah addresses gathering in Guwahati on May 25 | ANI

Union home minister Amit Shah made a bold prediction on May 25, stating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will secure a third term in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections by winning over 300 seats. Speaking at an event in Guwahati, Shah criticized Congress and other opposition parties for boycotting the inauguration of the new Parliament building, calling it ‘cheap politics’.

Amit Shah highlighted that the people of India had elected Narendra Modi as Prime Minister with a significant majority twice before and emphasized their support for him. He expressed his confidence that in the 2024 elections, PM Modi would secure over 300 seats, ensuring his third term as the country’s leader.

The union home minister criticized the negative attitude of Congress and its allies, questioning their decision to boycott the event. Amit Shah pointed out that opposition-ruled states had previously held ‘bhoomi pujan’ functions for state assemblies without inviting the governor. He cited examples from Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Assam, Manipur, and Tamil Nadu, where opposition governments had excluded the governor from such ceremonies while inviting senior Congress leaders.

Amit Shah dismissed the boycott as insignificant, emphasizing that the blessings of the people were with Prime Minister Modi. He further highlighted the people’s desire for a new temple of democracy in the form of the new parliament building, which would facilitate discussions on building a New India.

Targeting the opposition, Shah stated that their boycott would not have any substantial impact. He warned that their actions were being observed by the 1.3 billion people of India and that they risked losing their status as the opposition if they continued on this path. Amit Shah concluded by reiterating his belief in Narendra Modi’s electoral success, asserting that the Prime Minister would secure a third term with a resounding victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, surpassing the 300-seat mark.
