Five individuals have been arrested by the Arunachal Pradesh Police (APP) in connection with the recent firing incident along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border. The incident, which occurred during World Environment Day celebrations, resulted in the death of two individuals and left two others severely injured.

The arrests were made promptly by the APP, according to the Arunachal Pradesh Police PRO Rohit Rajbir Singh. The violent incident occurred when miscreants from the inter-state border area entered and opened fire on people from the Assam side who were engaged in tree plantation activities in Dhemaji district’s Panbari area, which borders Arunachal’s Lower Siang district.

In response to the incident, a peace meeting was held between both sides of the inter-state border, and Likabali MLA chaired a meeting involving the Deputy Commissioners and the Superintendents of Police from both districts. Security forces have been deployed in the disputed area, and the situation is now reported to be normal. Normal activities are ongoing, and there are no issues for the common citizens, as stated by the PRO.

A case has been registered at Likabali Police Station under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Arms Act. Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and assured that the state government will investigate the matter thoroughly. He emphasized the need for justice and stated that those responsible for the crime must face the full force of the law.

Assam Director General of Police (DGP) GP Singh confirmed the arrest of the five accused individuals and mentioned that the Assam Police would take them into custody following due procedure, as stated in a tweet.
