The Assam government, led by chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has initiated a comprehensive rural outreach programme aimed at visiting over 25,000 villages across the state. This drive is intended to identify social infrastructure gaps and assess the implementation status of various development schemes.

The outreach will span a period of 15 days and involve the active participation of the chief minister, ministers, senior government officials, and staff. The process will begin with government officers visiting each village to gather beneficiary data related to government schemes and evaluate their effectiveness and reach.

The main objectives of this massive drive include ensuring the maximum possible coverage of beneficiaries for all government schemes through extensive data collection. Additionally, it seeks to inspect social infrastructure at the village level to address any deficiencies and create a unified digital database to facilitate the smoother rollout of future schemes. The initiative also aims to foster public trust in government institutions, enhance the quality of social assets, and disseminate Village Report Cards to assess the success levels of various initiatives.

The timeline for the programme involves a preliminary survey from September 1 to September 15, followed by verification by departments between September 10 and September 20. Subsequently, the council ministers, including the chief minister, along with officials, will visit the villages from October 1 to October 15.

Assam tourism minister Jayanta Malla Baruah stated that the visits will occur during September and October, and not only ministers but government officers and MLAs will also be part of the delegations visiting the villages. The entire Assam government is committed to being present in the villages for 15 days during this period, and the chief minister will also actively participate in the village visits.
