ANI Photo | Tamil Nadu: Goods train derails in Kancheepuram East railway station, none injured

A goods train carrying iron roads from Bellary in Karnataka derailed near the Kanchipuram Old Railway Station in Tamil Nadu on Tuesday evening, officials said.
Karthik, an eyewitness, said a few bikes were damaged in the incident.
“There was confusion all of a sudden. A goods train was seen in the middle of the road. There were no injuries but a few motorbikes were damaged. This is a place where goods trains usually halt. So, it appears that the freight train derailed following some miscommunication,” he told ANI.
Chakarapandian, another eyewitness, said, “I am a lorry driver. I was overseeing the billing process after the loading of goods. It was then that the goods train derailed. The guard jumped off the train alerting those nearby to stay out of harm’s way.”
Sanjeevi, the section engineer of Southern Railway, said an inquiry was underway into the accident.
“It appears that the train derailed due to a lack of communication between the guard and the loco pilot. We have also been informed that there were signalling issues with the walkie-talkies. An inquiry is already underway. As a result of this incident, there was a brief disruption in the movement of trains on this freight corridor. However, the process of restoring normal freight service is in progress. In about 3 – 4 hours, normal freight service will be restored.”
He added that no trains would be cancelled as a result of this incident
