Congress party has named Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) professor Angomcha Bimol Akoijam as its candidate for Inner Manipur Lok Sabha constituency while Alfred Kangam Arthur, a former Congress MLA, will contest from the Outer Manipur parliamentary constituency.

Announcing the candidates, Congress president Meghachandra said that the political parties belonging to INDIA bloc have also decided to support the two Congress candidates. Most of the leaders of the INDIA bloc were also present in the press conference in Delhi on March 22.

The BJP has not yet announced the name of its candidate for Inner Manipur. Chief minister N Biren Singh said on a social media post that the BJP will support the NPF candidate in Outer Manipur.

Reports said that sitting MP and Union minister of state for external affairs and education RK Ranjan Singh is a front runner to get the BJP ticket in Inner Manipur parliamentary constituency. However, the saffron party was yet to make an official announcement towards this.

The Naga People’s Front (NPF) has decided to drop its sitting MP in Outer Manipur, Pfoze, and announced the name of Timothy Zimik. The NPF will support the BJP in Inner Manipur.
