Thirty passengers of a flight from Kuwait to Guwahati have tested positive for COVID-19 in Guwahati on June 1, taking the overall state’s tally to 1463 with 102 new cases detected during the day so far.

The state also recorded the highest number of discharge of recovered patients on a single day, with 99 patients released from different hospitals of the state on June 1.

Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed that among the new cases, 30 are Kuwait returnees who had arrived in a special repatriation flight at Guwahati airport.

Moreover, 12 each cases were detected in Cachar and Barpeta, 10 in Kamrup, nine in Karimganj, seven in Kokrajhar, five in Udalguri, four in Charaideo, and three each in Dhubri and Darrang districts on June 1.

Two cases each have been confirmed from Hailakandi and Nagaon, and one each from Sonitpur and Sivasagar.

Meanwhile, in the highest number of single day discharge, 99 patients were discharged on June 1 after testing negative for COVID-19 twice.

The total number of recovered patients has gone up to 284 now.

The number of active cases in the state now stands at 1172, while four have died so far.
