32nd foundation day of Sonapur College observed

Sonapur College, a higher educational institute in the outskirts of Guwahati observed its 32nd foundation day on August 2.

The principal of the college Devabrot Khanikor flagged off the foundation day programme by hoisting the college flag. The 1st Assam battalion NCC and the 50 Assam air wings NCC cadets performed march-past and performed a patriotic song.

Upen Bara, the founder secretary of the Sonapur College management committee paid homage to the founder members of the college.

This was followed by an open meeting and an interactive session among the founder members, staff and students of the college took place. Speaking on the occasion, Devabrot Khanikor, principal, said that the college has been achieving meaningful growth in every field of education and has been participating in different accreditations at the national level.

“The college also has achieved various milestones in the field of academics. The college has been putting enormous efforts to bring the vocational courses into the limelight and to incorporate its vocational courses into BA and B Com. Opening of post-graduate courses has given a major boost in its progress,” said Khanikor.

Khanikor also mentioned about the national policy on education and the role of the stakeholders of an educational institute. He also made important remarks on the perspective plans of the college that is toward graded autonomy by 2030. Sonapur College is now gearing up for its 3rd cycle of NAAC assessment.

Upen Bora remembered the history of the college and the efforts made by the people in making this college a reality. Participating in the intimate event, founder member Heremba Prasad Saikia expressed happiness over the improvement and development of the college.

Biman Patwari, a founder teacher and coordinator of IQAC, founder members Ajit Dutta, Deepak Kumar Das, Amiya Barua, Deepti Bara, and some eminent personalities also spoke on the occasion and recalled the memories of the period of foundation of the college.

The 9th and 10th editions of the college news bulletin were also released by the founder members on this occasion.
