Police recovered 49 gold bars weighing 8 kg in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district, officials said on December 12.

The market value of the seized gold bars is estimated at around Rs 4 crore.

Police also arrested two persons and seized a four wheeler.

Karbi Anglong district police said that during regular checking at Dilai Tiniali, police team on December 11 night had intercepted a vehicle.

On thorough search of the vehicle, 4 packets wrapped with black tape were recovered where 49 pieces of gold bars were hidden.

Bokajan SDPO John Das said that each gold bar was measured and the total weight was found to be 8.018 kg.

Police had arrested two persons identified as Prakash Basnet and Subhash Bista.

Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted: “Assam police shall spare none. In a massive operation, 49 gold bars weighing 8 kgs were recovered by @karbianglongpol at Dilai today. Two people involved in it were nabbed.”
