Six people were killed and 16 others were injured after a passenger bus of Meghalaya Transport Corporation (MTC) fell into a river in Meghalaya’s East Garo Hills district on September 29 night.

East Garo Hills district superintendent of police Bruno A Sangma said that, six people, including the driver of the ill-fated bus and two women, were killed in the accident.

The deceased persons were identified as Disi M Sangma, Sengsrang R Marak, Traiwin R Marak, Tangsimbirth M Sangma, Chekamchi G Momin and Everestar Kharumnuid (driver of the bus).

According to the reports, 21 passengers were on board when the passenger bus of Meghalaya Transport Corporation fell into Ringdi river on September 29 night.

The incident took place at Nongchram area where the MTC night bus travelling from Tura in to Shillong plunged into the Ringdi river.

Following the incident rescue teams from Rongjeng and Williamnagar fire and emergency services and police rushed to the accident site for helping the victims.

The injured persons were shifted to Rongjeng hospital for medical assistance.
