The season’s first flood has already affected about 57,000 lives in seven districts of Assam till May 15. Reports from the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) show that 222 villages have been affected in the districts of Cachar, Dhemaji, Hojai, Karbi Anglong, West Nagaon, Kamrup Metro and Nalbari.

Moreover, three persons are reported missing.

Twenty relief camps and nine relief distribution centres have been set up by the ASDMA in these districts.

The incessant rain has caused landslides in the districts of Dima Hasao, where one woman had died in Haflong, and at Hailakandi where three houses have been damaged.

In Guwahati, urban flood-partial water logging due to heavy rain has been recorded in Hatigaon, Keraikuchi, Wireless and Anil Nagar.

The Regional Meteorological Department has warned of widespread rainfall (at most places) in almost all districts of Assam till May 19.

Notably, the Kopili river in Kampur in the Nagaon district is currently flowing above the danger level.
