Assam reported 7 new cases of COVID-19 late in the evening on May 18, taking the total tally in the state to 115 cases. Among the newly detected cases, one person had already died at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Guwahati prior to detection of the disease.

Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed that among the new cases, three each are from Sarusajai quarantine centre and Fancy Bazaar containment zone.

“7 #COVID19 positive cases detected from Guwahati. One person had unfortunately died at GMCH prior to detection. 3 patients are from Sarusajai quarantine centre; and rest 3 related to Aloo Godam case are from Fancy Bazaar containment zone,” the minister tweeted.

With this, the number of death cases in the state went up to 4 while the number of active cases stands at 68.

Earlier in the day, a person died at the GMCH due to cancer and COVID-19 related complications. He had travelled from Mumbai recently.

In the last 24 hours, Assam reported 15 positive cases of COVID-19. Of these, 7 cases were reported from Guwahati, 4 from Golaghat, 2 from Cachar and one each from Nagaon and Jorhat.
