73 new cases take Assam COVID-19 tally to 856

Assam continued to record increase in new COVID-19 cases with 73 new cases detected so far on May 28 taking the tally to 856.

While 15 new cases were detected in the morning, 33 more were reported in the afternoon and 25 more in the evening.

Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed through Twitter regarding the new cases.

Among the new cases, 32 were reported from Kamrup Metro, 11 from Cachar, 10 from Nagaon, three each from Dhemaji, Barpeta and Dibrugarh and two each from Karimganj, Kokrajhar and Hailakandi.

One each has also been confirmed from Lakhimpur, Hojai and Dima Hasao.

The number of active cases now stands at 762, while 87 have recovered and four have died so far.

The state has been recording a spike in new COVID-19 cases with over 390 cases detected in the last three days.

People returning from outside have been accounting for most of the new cases.
