Nine people, including eight children, were killed on July 11 due to massive landslides in three different places at Tamenglong district in Manipur.

Five children of a family were killed in New Salem, Tamenglong ward no 4 when landslides occurred in the area. Many houses in the hill areas were washed away by the landslides.

Media reports quoted locals as saying that mud and water washed away the children.

In a nearby area, another landslide occurred washing away two siblings.

A woman and her young son were killed when their house was washed away at Neigailuang, Tamenglong ward no 2.

District officials and police were helping the people in restoring normalcy and efforts were on to recover all the bodies.

There was panic in the area as the national highway and other roads were cut off due to the landslide. Fire brigade personnel were put into service to help the people.
