97 new COVID-19 cases in Meghalaya

Meghalaya reported 97 new COVID-19 cases on April 15. The total number of active cases in the state surged to 457 even as only three recoveries from the viral disease were recorded in the past 24 hours, taking the number of recovered cases to 13,974.

Three staff nurses working at North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS), Meghalaya Institute of Mental Health and Neurological Science (MIMHANS), and Dr H Gordon Roberts Hospital in Shillong were among the 97 people who tested positive for the viral infection, Director Health Services (MI), Aman War said.

The senior medical official said the new COVID-19 cases detected on April 15 included two armed force/paramilitary force personnel in East Khasi Hills district, two each in Ri-Bhoi district and West Jaintia Hills district.

With 360 active COVID-19 cases, the East Khasi Hills, which includes state capital Shillong is the most affected district followed by West Jaintia Hills with 58 active cases and Ri-Bhoi district with 23 active cases.

Meghalaya has so far registered 14,582 COVID-19 cases, including 151 deaths.

Of the total 4,29,358 swab samples tested till today, 4,14,776 yielded negative for COVID-19, War said.

He added that 1,66,625 doses of Covishield vaccine have been administered across the state till date, and the total number of persons administered both doses was 44,384.
