Bollywood actor Aamir Khan will visit Assam after the Independence Day celebrations, chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma told reporters on August 12.

“Aamir Khan wanted to come to Assam. We have talked about it. But I have told him to come after Independence Day. We don’t want to get the attention of Independence Day celebrations diverted,” the chief minister told media in Guwahati on August 12.

It is understood that the Bollywood star was planning to come to Assam to promote his latest film ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’.

“We are in touch frequently. So, he can come anytime. That’s not a problem. So, we will decide another date for the visit,” the CM added.

‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ is a remake of the iconic Hollywood blockbuster ‘Forest Gump’ featuring Tom Hank in the lead. There has been a mixed reaction to the film with many calling for boycotting it.

In June this year, Aamir Khan donated Rs 25 lakh to Assam chief minister’s relief fund.
