A cancer patient, who had returned to Assam following recovery after being detected as COVID-19 positive in New Delhi recently, has been found to be infected with the virus once again.

The woman, her husband and their nephew tested positive on March 28 for COVID-19 in Delhi where the trio was there for the woman’s cancer treatment. Later, the husband died due to COVID-19 related complications and was buried in the national capital itself.

The women and her nephew recovered from the infection and returned to Assam on May 23.

She was in quarantine at Golaghat in Assam and her latest test report has come positive. She has now been admitted at Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH).

With her report showing her positive for COVID-19 once again, the woman has been taken to the JMCH.

Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, reacting to the woman testing positive again after recovery, said it ‘might be false positive also’.

Assam is witnessing a massive spike in new COVID-19 cases with 290 cases detected in the last two days, while 92 cases came to light on May 27, taking the total tally in the state to 774.
