The opening ceremony of AIBA Women’s Youth World Boxing Championships (AWYWBC) at Guwahati will be held at the Maulana Md Tayabullah Hockey Stadium on Sunday.

Brand ambassador Mary Kom who recently won gold in Asian Boxing championship will be present on the occasion.

Union sports minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore is also likely to be present. The tickets for the inaugural function are available on BookMyShow.

“We have a number of cultural events lined up for the opening ceremony. Bollywood singer Shaan and our very own Zubeen Garg, who is also an ambassador of the boxing championship, will be performing besides a host of other artistes,” said competition manager of AWYWBC Hemanta Kalita.

Kalita said that AWYWBC ambassador and five-time world champion Mary Kom will be present during the inaugural ceremony. President of Boxing Federation of India (BFI) Ajay Singh will also be present on the occasion.

The organizers are hopeful that the Union sports minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore will able to participate in the event.

The ticket prices have been fixed between Rs 150 to Rs 500.

Around 200 boxers (16-17 years) from 36 countries will take part in the first major AIBA tournament in India after 2006.

As many as 176 bouts in 10 different weight categories are on the cards, with 40 medals (10 Gold, 10 Silver, 20 Bronze) on the line. The boxers can also hope to book a few quota berths for the 2018 Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires.
