A 1988 batch IPS officer Amitabh Ranjan has been appointed as the new chief of Tripura police and he is expected to resume duty next week.
Amitabh Ranjan is replacing the incumbent Director General of Police (DGP) Akhil Kumar Shukla who is going to be retired from the service from January 31.
Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has cleared the formalities for the appointment of Amitabh Ranjan as the DGP on January 30 night with the approval of UPSC and ministry of home affairs.
According to report, UPSC had recommended VS Yadav, an IPS of 1987 batch and incumbent principal secretary of OBC Welfare in state government along with Amitabh Ranjan.
Finally, the state government has favoured Ranjan for the top post. He is presently posted as Additional Director of Intelligence Bureau under Union Ministry of Home Affairs. He had been served as Superintendent of Police in North Tripura district and other wings of the state police before leaving Tripura for his central deputation.
Amitabh Ranjan had also served in Germany and other countries in different capacities under MHA.
