Organising team of Techniche 2022 announcing the Guwahati Half Marathon at the Gauhati Press Club on April 21

IIT Guwahati’s annual techno-management fest, Techniche 2022, was officially announced on April 21 in partnership with UNICEF Assam. The theme for the youth festival will be child protection, and the first initiative, the Guwahati Half Marathon will be held on April 24.

Speaking about the theme for this year’s annual festival Sai Sumanth Madicherla, vice president, student gymkhana IIT Guwahati said: “The impact of COVID-19 has been severe on many vulnerable communities, especially children. And one of the impacts has been the violation of children’s rights due to violence, neglect, abuse, and exploitation, among others. Starting with the marathon, we will be launching a campaign called #Youth4Suraksha, with the objective of young people demanding accountability for the protection of children in Assam and India.”

The Guwahati Half Marathon will start at 5.30 am from ABITA Indoor Stadium, near Nehru Stadium in Guwahati, on April 24. The marathon comprises of two races – a 6 km spirit run and a 21 km glory run. The prize pool for the marathon is Rs 1.5 lakh. Certificates will also be provided to all the people who will complete the marathon.

The Guwahati Half Marathon 2022 will be the first of a series of initiatives to prevent violence and abuse faced by the children, urging people to run for the cause to support the youth for taking social actions against it.

Speaking during the press conference, the student team added: “Techniche is a complete student body organization which always tries to uplift the technology aspects in Northeast India and encourages students through its exciting events and interesting competitions. Being one of the largest technical festivals in India, it gives Northeast an eminence on a global standard. And, it provides a platform for many students to prove themselves on a nationwide level.”

“A confluence of some of the most logical and technically proficient brains from around the world, an event organized by some of the most passionate about technology IITians, Techniche is all about showing your calibre, appreciating and respecting the metal in your opponent,” said Priyanshu Choudhary, convener, Techniche 2022.

“The Guwahati Half Marathon on April 24 is an attempt by Techniche to get people together to fight for a cause after the total shutdown of social life due to the pandemic situation in the country. The event follows the success of the virtual conduction of India’s most unique techno-management festival for the past two years. If the pandemic situation remains under control, the techno-management fest will take place later this year,” he added.
