APCC on Monday dared Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal to reveal the government’s ‘zero tolerance’ against corruption. Talking to reporters, APCC general secretary Apurba Kumar Bhattacharya said that unabated corruption is going on in the ‘Janata Bhawan’.

Bhattacharya also slammed the ruling BJP government of spending public funds in the name of organizing festivals.

“We too wanted to make the state free from corruption. The BJP government came to power promising to curb down the corruption. However, it’s not even a year but we have seen some top officials continued to take brides in large scales inside the secretariat,” said Bhattacharya.

He continued to attack the saffron party saying that the practice of collecting money illegally through various syndicates.

“Besides, what is the logic of wasting public money in the name of conducting festivals? There are promises to be fulfilled. The deadline for completing the work on controlling erosion in Majuli has already passed. Can your government make it public what are the benefits the state has got from Namami Brahmaputra and Mind Rocks programmes?” Bhattacharyya added.

The APCC has also reacted to a BJP leader’s remark that there is no existence of Congress in Assam. “At a time when we have three Lok Sabha MPs, six Rajya Sabha MPs and 25 MLAs in the state, how can the BJP say illogical things like this. The BJP in the disguise of making partnership with regional parties, actually want to finish the local parties,” said Bhattacharyya.
