Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) on April 3 wrote to chief electoral officer (CEO) Nitin Khade to take proper action against several incidents pertaining to EVMs and strong rooms.
“During the second phase of the poll in Assam the several election-related incidents and illegal activities which hampers for holding of a free and fair election. I would like to request the CEO to enquiry and take appropriate legal actions against all individuals found guilty,” APCC president Ripun Bora said.

Congress also staged a protest demonstration in Guwahati on April 3. They have also raised the issue of junior health minister Pijush Hazarika’s threat to a local TV journalist.
Bora in the letter said that: “It has also been observed that there had been large scale violation of the election commission of India’s model code of conduct as well as several provisions of the Representation of the Peoples Act, 1951 including Section 160 of the said Act. Under such circumstances, I pray before your honour to take prompt and necessary action against the guilty persons involved in all the above incidents. I also request your honour to take appropriate action against Krishnendu Paul, contesting for the Patharkandi constituency as a candidate of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for his act of carrying an EVM in his personal vehicle on the day of polling of the second phase of the election.”
