Senior Assam Police officer Kumar Sanjit Krishna, who was arrested in the police recruitment exam paper leak scam on October 15, was remanded in five days CID custody by a local court in Guwahati.

The CID, Assam Police, which had apprehended the superintendent of police-level officer, had sought seven days custody, but court allowed five days custody for further investigation.

Two other accused in the case, Rubul Hazarika and Soroj Sarmah, were also produced before the court at the end of their six days police remand. The court allowed further five days police remand of both the accused.

Meanwhile, another accused, Debraj Das of Barpeta has been arrested by CID in connection with this case, taking the total number of arrests to 22 by the CID.

Cash worth Rs 1,83,55,740 was recovered from his house on October 10 and he was being brought to CID on the strength of transit remand issued by a local court.

Cash worth Rs 46,77,000 and gold ornaments weighing 79 tola (920.340 grams) recovered on October 16 from a locker of Bank of Baroda, Barpeta branch, which was opened in the name of the wife Debraj Das.

The scam pertains to leak of question paper of examination for recruitment of sub-inspectors of Assam Police which was scheduled on September 22. The examination was cancelled and has now been re-scheduled for November.

A retired DIG of Assam Police, PK Dutta, and a BJP leader Diban Deka, among others, have also been arrested in the case.
Besides the CID, Crime Branch of Guwahati Police and other district police have registered separate cases into the scam.
