The Arunachal Pradesh cabinet on Friday approved operationalization of the Lower Siang district. Likabali has been approved as the temporary headquarter of the newly created district.

A government release stated that deputy commissioner and superintendent of police will be posted at Likabali immediately. The new district would include Assembly segments of Likabali, Basar and Nari-Koyu.

Further, the government release stated that the operationalization of the Lower Siang district was approved on the condition that status quo shall be maintained in respect of Kora circle till an amicable solution is arrived after detailed consultation with stakeholders.

The cabinet approved exclusion of Depi, Depimoli and Detak from Lower Siang district.

The Arunachal government had approved creation of Lower Siang along with three other new districts in January 2013. Its territory was to be carved out of West Siang and East Siang districts. The official formation of Lower Siang was delayed because of disagreements over the location of its headquarters and boundary.
