Liquor prices in Arunachal Pradesh went down as the state government withdrew the 25 per cent cess it levied in May last year.

The Arunachal Pradesh government on July 5 withdrew the 25 per cent cess on alcoholic beverages it levied due to the COVID-19 situation last year.

The order came into force from July 6.

Last year in May, the state government had imposed the additional 25% tax in order to offset the economic losses that the state had experienced during the lockdown and continued to do so.

The cess was applicable on all Indian Made Foreign Liquors (IMFLs), beer, imported alcoholic beverages and wine in the state. While announcing the additional tax, the state government had said that it would generate Rs 70 crore per month to the state exchequer.
