The Arunachal Pradesh government on July 11 extended the ongoing ‘total lockdown’ in the Itanagar Capital Region, which was clamped on July 6 in the view of the increase in COVID-19 positive cases, by one more week.

Taking to micro-blogging site, Twitter, Chief Minister Pema Khandu wrote, “Had a virtual Cabinet meeting to assess the COVID-19 situation. To check the spread at the very initial stages, the lockdown of ICR has been extended till July 20.”

“Contact tracing will be intensified during this period, all citizens are requested to strictly follow the SOP,” he added.

Expressing his gratitude to the people of the ICR for their cooperation on the on-going lockdown, Khandu said, “Together we will defeat the virus.”

The total lockdown in the Itanagar Capital Region, which was clamped from July 6, was supposed to end on July 12.

Arunachal Pradesh reported 33 fresh COVID-19 cases on July 10 with the Itanagar Capital Complex accounting for 28 of the fresh cases.
