Informing that the strategic Sikam Sibu bridge near Yapik village in Shi-Yomi district of Arunachal Pradesh has been completely washed away due to heavy rainfall resulting in cutting off the district from the rest of the state, Assembly Speaker PD Sona on June 4 urged upon the Border Road Organisation (BRO) to take immediate needful action to restore the bridge.

In a letter to the chief engineer, Project Brahmank (BRO), the speaker stated that Aalo-Mechukha road is the key and strategic for movement of people, transportation of essential commodities, life saving drugs, construction materials and movement of defence personnel in the entire Shi Yomi district.

The early restoration of the bridge is of utmost importance, Sona said, adding, that in view of inclement weather, supply of essential items and evacuation of emergency patients through sortie will also not be possible.

The restoration of bridge on war footing is need of the hour to facilitate easy movement of men and materials and to tackle emergency medical situation including COVID-19, he wrote.
