AGP in Assam – The News Mill

Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), a partner of the Bharatiya Janata Party-led coalition government in Assam, celebrated its foundation day on October 14 with a day-long programme at Abhayapuri in Bongaigaon district.

Party president and state cabinet minister Atul Bora, his two colleagues in the cabinet Phani Bhushan Choudhury and Keshav Mahanta, and former Assam chief minister and senior party leader Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, among others, attended the programme.

Bora, addressing the meeting, exhorted the party workers to strengthen the base of regionalism in the state. He reiterated the AGP’s commitment to fight for the cause of the state.

Working president Keshav Mahanta, in his speech, said the past leadership had made mistakes which had pushed the party out of power. But with the party back in power, the current leadership will strive to strengthen it, he added.

The AGP, the most influential regional party in the state, was formed on this day in 1985.
