Chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal urged the youth to take up sports as a way of life and emphasized proper promotion of sports medicine and adopting sports in a more scientific way in the state.

The CM said this while giving away the championship trophy of TG Baruah Memorial Media T-20 Championship at Judges Field in Guwahati on Thursday.

Pratidin newspaper clinched the champion’s trophy by defeating Pratidin Time in the final match by 131 runs.

Speaking on the occasion, Sonowal said that sports play an important role in physical and mental growth and building character and called upon the youth to make it an essential part of their day-to-day life. He also emphasized proper promotion of sports medicine and adopting sports in a more scientific way and expressed state government’s commitment to promote sports in a public-private partnership.

Batting first after winning the toss, Asomiya Pratidin scored 191 for 3 in 20 overs while in reply Pratidin Time could score just 60 losing all the wickets in 14 overs.

For Asomiya Pratidin, Parthir Hazarika scored an unbeaten 70 in 38 balls while Tauhid Ali Talukdar who has displayed a good show throughout the tournament remained not out at 52. Talukdar was later adjudged as player of the tournament. Hazarika was declared Man of the match.

In replay, the Pratin Time batsmen couldn’t survive in front of the fiery spells of Asomiya Pratidin bowlers. Abinash Thakuria picked up 4 wickets while Bhaskar Das and Tauhid Ali Talukdar took 3 and 2 wickets respectively.
