Assam armyman Hardhan Chandra Roy among 4 soldiers killed in J&K

An army personnel from Assam’s Dhubri district was among the four Indian Army soldiers martyred in the unprovoked ceasefire violation by Pakistan along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu & Kashmir on November 13.

Army and official sources said on November 14 that Hardhan Chandra Roy from Mhedhipara in the Sapotgram area of Dhubri district made the supreme sacrifice for the country when Pakistan used mortars and other weapons during the unprovoked ceasefire violation in the two-hour long shelling on November 13.

Roy’s old mother Anima Roy in her sorrowful voice said: “We have received a call from an Army Major on Friday evening who informed that my only son is no more. I just can’t believe it.”

But she did not believe the person and called the office for reconfirmation.

“Wo aab iss duniya main nehi raha (He is not alive),” she heard from the other side.

Roy had joined the Army in 2001 and was survived by his wife who he married in 2018, a two-year-old son, his sister and his parents. His mortal remains are expected to reach the state on November 15 evening, Army sources said.

Pokul Roy, the 30-year-old widow of the soldier said that they had a video call on November 12 night when they talked for the last time.

“Who will look after my son now? His two unmarried sisters and the 72-year-old father and mother?” the widow said.

She sought proper rehabilitation for her son and a job for the family to survive as there is no one in the family who can earn.

She said that Roy was at home during the lockdown and he went to Kashmir on June 15. Roy was earlier posted in Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, Northeast and elsewhere.
