Nayanmoni Saikia being felicitated by Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma in Guwahati | CMO, Assam

Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma felicitated Commonwealth Games gold medallist Nayanmoni Saikia on her return to home, in Guwahati on August 11.

Felicitating the gold medallist with an Assamese jaapi, a sorai and a phulam gamusa, the chief minister lauded her indomitable spirit that led to her bringing glory and pride to the nation and the state.

Nayanmoni Saikia was part of the Indian women’s lawn bowls team that won the historic gold medal in the team event. This was the first ever gold in this sport for India in the Commonwealth Games.

Himanta Biswa Sarma further assured her of all assistance and cooperation from the government in her endeavour to reach greater heights in sports.

Accompanied by her husband Bhaskar Jyoti Gohain and daughter Tanaya, the Commonwealth gold medallist’s conversation with the chief minister ranged from her initial interest in lawn bowls to her experience at Birmingham, among others.

She was also accompanied by Mridul Borgohain, a member of the Indian men’s lawn bowls team for the Commonwealth Games.

Assam Lawn Bowls Association president Durga Das Boro, senior journalist and Assam Olympic Association vice-president Pranoy Bordoloi, Assam Olympic Association general secretary Lakshya Konwar, among others, were also present.

Earlier, Nayanmoni was accorded warm welcome at the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport. Assam Lawn Bowls Association also felicitated her.
