Amid the ongoing tension along Assam-Mizoram border, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma directed the state police to withdraw FIR against Rajya Sabha MP K Vanlalvena as a ‘goodwill gesture’.
“However, cases against other accused police officers will be pursued,” Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
The Assam chief minister tweeted: “To take this goodwill gesture ahead, I have directed @assampolice to withdraw FIR against K Vanlalvena, Hon’ble MP, Rajya Sabha from Mizoram. However, cases against other accused police officers will be pursued.”
The development comes hours after the Mizoram government said it would relook at the FIR registered against Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma along with six officials.
Mizoram police had registered case against the Assam chief minister and six other officials including four senior Assam police officers on charges of attempt to murder and criminal conspiracy over July 26 violent incident that took place in disputed areas in between Assam’s Lailapur and Mizoram’s Vairengte.

This has been done at the instruction of Hon @CMOfficeAssam Sjt @himantabiswa in the interest of de-escalation of the tension along the border. However, criminal proceedings against erring police personnel of @mizorampolice and other miscreants shall continue.
