Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal who is in New Delhi held a meeting with union home minister Amit Shah on August 13 at the latter’s office in North Block and discussed on several aspects especially maintaining law and order after publication of the final National Register of Citizens (NRC). He also apprised him the damages caused by the recent wave of flood in the state.

Union home minister Amit Shah assured all assistance from the Centre for the state to maintain law and order after the final NRC which is to be published on August 31. Drawing attention of the union home minister towards post flood situation in Assam, Sonowal gave him a detailed account of the damages caused by the recent waves of flood in the state.

Shah assured Sonowal of all kinds of help and support in the state government’s bid to rehabilitation and reconstruction work in the flood affected areas of the state.

Further, in a statement Sonowal said that people of Barak-Brahmaputra, hills and plains extended all cooperation to the state government during the ongoing NRC updation process which is being carried out in the state under the supervision of the Supreme Court of India. He also appealed to the people to maintain peace in the aftermath of the publication of the final NRC.
