Assam on August 4 completed 10 lakh tests to detect COVID-19 even as the number of new cases continued to increase in the state.
Health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed of the testing feat through Twitter, praising the Health department team for achieving it. “Assam achieves an incredible feat of a million COVID-19 tests! Setting up first lab in February, which grew to 17 rapidly, our teams have done extraordinary work in reaching the 10 lakh mark in a little over 8 weeks. The last 1 lakh came in just 3 days. Remarkable!” he tweeted.
Further, the number of plasma banks also grew to four in the state with opening of two more such facilities on August 4.
Minister of State for Health Pijush Hazarika on August 4 inaugurated two plasma banks at the Assam Medical College and Hospital at Dibrugarh and at Jorhat Medical College and Hospital.
The first plasma bank was set up at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital in Guwahati last month, while the second was opened at the Tezpur Medical College and Hospital a few days back.
Meanwhile, the overall COVID-19 tally in the state has reached 48,161 with detection of 2886 new cases in the last 24 hours on August 4, which was the highest single day spike in the state yet.
