Assam conducts over 1.43 lakh COVID-19 tests in single day

Assam recorded the highest single-day spike in COVID-19 cases with a massive surge of over 4,500 new cases, while successfully conducting over 1.43 lakh tests on August 12.

State health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed that 1,43,109 tests for COVID-19 were conducted in the state on August 12.

It led to detection of 4,593 new cases, with today’s positivity rate stands at 3.20 per cent.

Over 17 lakh COVID-19 tests have been conducted in the state till date.

The death toll increased to 161 with six casualties confirmed during the day.

The highest single-day discharge of cured COVID-19 patients was also recorded on August 12 as 2,136 discharges took the recovery tally to 47,209.

The number of active COVID-19 cases in the state now stands at 21,626.
