Swab sample collection for COVID-19 test

The overall COVID-19 tally in Assam is nearing 60,000 with over 1000 new cases detected in the last 24 hours.

State health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed that 1,123 new cases were confirmed in the last 24 hours, taking the overall tally to 58,837.

The positivity rate in the state on August 9 was 4.58%, he said, adding that Kamrup (M) accounted for 240 of the new cases and Jorhat, for 121.

The number of recovered patients was higher than the new cases in the past 24 hours, with the overall figure also growing steadily.

Altogether 1,734 patients were discharged from different hospitals and COVID Care Centres yesterday, putting the number of recovered patients to 42,325.

The number of active COVID-19 cases in the state currently stands at 16,364, while the death toll is 145.
