The Assam government has granted a special leave on January 6-7 to all its employees to “spend quality time” with parents and in-laws. However, chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the employees need to provide proof of staying with parents to their seniors after returning from the holidays – which effectively will be of four days taking into account the weekend.

Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on January 3 said that the government employees should avail the special holidays. He added that a website is being made available where the employees will have to upload photographs from their holidays.

“I request the government employees to spend quality time with their parents/in-laws during the four-day holiday period from January 6-10. Government has sanctioned two days of casual leave with Saturday, Sunday being normal holidays,” Sarma said, adding that all have to provide proof of their staying with parents to the seniors after returning from holidays.

He also said that a portal will be launched where state government employees could upload their photographs with their parents of their stay or otherwise submit the same to the immediate seniors.

CM Sarma also added that from next year, the state government is planning to provide monetary help to the employees for their stay with their parents during the special holiday.

“To uphold ancient Indian values, I urge Assam government employees to spend quality time with their parents/in-laws on January 6 and 7 designated as special holidays,” he tweeted on January 2.

“I request them to rededicate themselves to the cause of building a new Assam and new India with blessings of their parents,” his tweet added.

After a cabinet decision, the Assam government in a notification had said: “The government is pleased to allow state government employees to avail casual leave on January 6 and 7, 2022, suffixing the two holidays, the 8th and 9th of January 2022, being the second Saturday and Sunday, so as to enable them to spend the aforesaid days with their living parents and parents-in-law.”
