The Assam government will provide free COVID-19 vaccines to people in the age group of 18-45 years.
Tweeting the update, Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote: “Assam will give free vaccines to everyone from 18-45 years. GOI is giving free vaccines for 45+.”
The minister added that the funds collected in Assam Arogya Nidhi last year shall be utilized for the procurement of vaccines.
“Today itself, we have placed orders for 1 crore doses with @BharatBiotech,” Sarma informed.
All people above 18 years of age will be eligible for COVID-19 vaccination from May 1. The third phase of the vaccination plan aims to accelerate the inoculation drive across the country which is already hit by the second wave of COVID-19.
On April 20, India reported 2,94,115 fresh cases. Assam, meanwhile, reported 1651 fresh cases on April 20. The total number of active patients in the state was 7686 on April 20.
