The Assam government on September 28 has ordered to reopen physical classes for Class 1 to 8 and Class 11 from October 19.

The physical classes of Class 9, all degree and post graduate classes, all classes in technical institutions/universities, Bed colleges – both government-run and private in the state will resume from October 1.

The state government on September 28 issued a separate standard operating procedure (SOP) for resuming the physical classes and the classes will be held by following proper COVID-19 guidelines and protocols.

In an order issued by the education department of the Assam government, the classes will be held for three days in a week for all the classes from Class 1 to Class 8.

“In continuation of education department earlier supplementary standard operating procedure dated, Dispur the September 3, 2021, and dated September 16, 2021 the govt is pleased to notify the re-opening of physical classes from Class I to Class VIII and Class XI w.e.f October 19, Class IX, all degree and post graduate classes, all classes in technical institutions/universities, Bed colleges both government and private in the state w.e.f October 1 maintaining all the protocols of safety guidelines under COVID-19 protocol and the detailed standard operating procedure,” said in the order.

The order also said that: “The re-opening of physical classes in educational institutions (both government and private) is based on the criteria that COVID-19 positivity rate is below 2% in the district and in case in any district, the positivity rate goes above 2% on a particular day, the deputy commissioner of the concerned district, as chairman of the DDMA in consultation with MD, NHM, will close the educational institutions till positivity rate goes below 2%.”

The state government directed all schools, educational institutions to continue to provide quality virtual option/online classes in addition to physical classes.

“There should not be more than 30 students in a section and head of the institution will assess the required number of sections and open more sections accordingly if required and there will be no cultural function, meetings etc until further orders,” said the order.

Earlier, the state government had resumed physical classes of Class 10, Class 12, final year classes of graduation and post-graduation by following COVID-19 protocols.
