The Assam government will provide free scooters to meritorious girl students who cleared their Class X examination this year under the state board securing first division marks.

State Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, addressing a press conference in Guwahati on August 18, informed that the state government will provide “scooties” to 22,000 girl students who passed the Class X examination conducted by Board of Secondary Education Assam (SEBA) securing first division.

“We will handover the scooties to the girl students, who have secured first division under SEBA this year, before the month of October,” the minister said.

Sarma added that those willing to opt for electric scooters may inform the department about their preference. “There won’t be other options, but those who want to opt for an electric scooter may inform us about their choice,” he said, adding that the students will have to bear the road tax and no accessories like helmets will be provided.

“The beneficiary will not be able to sell the scooter for a period of three years,” he added.
