Assam journalist Aiyushman Dutta dies of COVID-19

Senior journalist from Guwahati, Aiyushman Dutta, died of COVID-19 at a private hospital in Guwahati on April 26 evening.

Dutta was battling COVID-19 and was on ventilator support. His family, friends and well wishers struggled to find a plasma donor on time for the journalist despite putting their best efforts.

The senior journalist was working with ‘The Sentinel’ newspaper in Guwahati writing mainly on the art and cultural scene of Northeast India since 2006. He had also contributed regularly to many other publications.

Known for his love for music, food and culture of Northeast region, Aiyushman Dutta was the founder secretary of Eastern Beats Music Society and the organizer of the Guwahati International Music Festival (GIMF).

As an “occasional filmmaker”, he directed multiple docu-features on the folk traditions and life and culture of the region. His published works include a coffee table book on music, dance and culture of the Northeast, a coffee table on Hornbill festival and Food Trail: Discovering Food Culture of Northeast India.
