Assam Police uses software to deploy forces at polling stations

Assam Police, with help from National Informatics Centre (NIC), started deputing on-ground police personnel for election duty in Assam through an automated force randomisation software system.

The system enables automatic deputation of cops at polling stations, without any manual intervention, thereby ensuring randomisation and neutrality. As per the state police, the step helps in flawless execution of force randomisation under the watchful eyes of the Election Commission.

A team of dedicated specialists from Assam Police and NIC are working on the project round the clock.

“As a result, Assam Police had a flawless execution of force randomisation under the watchful eyes of observers from Election Commission for the first phase of elections. The second batch is currently being trained to operate the Force Randomisation Software for the second phase of elections. A total of 25 of them are being trained currently,” the police said.

DGP Assam Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, on March 25 took stock of the system and interacted with trainees and NIC team for force randomisation software.

Assam will be only the second state in the country to be able to execute the task, Assam Police said.
