Assam Police won an award at the India Police Awards 2020 for its child-friendly policing initiative – Assam Police Sishu Mitra – on October 29.

The Sishu Mitra programme, launched in collaboration with UNICEF India and UTSAH, won the ‘capacity building’ award at this year’s India Police Awards.

After receiving the award in a virtual ceremony, additional director general of police (admin), Assam, Harmeet Singh tweeted: “Privileged to have received the @bygovernancenow India Police Award 2020 for Capacity Building on behalf of the @assampolice ‘Shishu Mitra Program’ and our partners @UNICEFIndia & @utsahassamOrg. Together we hope to ensure Child Friendly Policing. @CMOfficeAssam @DGPAssamPolice.”

Child rights activist and founder of NGO Utsah, Miguel Das Queah said: “Assam Police has been awarded the India Police Awards 2020, for the ‘Assam Police Sishu Mitra Program.’ Assam Police brings home this award for all the lovely children of Assam. Additional DGP, Mr Harmeet Singh receives the award on behalf of the Assam Police.”
