Days after violent clashes along the Assam-Mizoram border resulting in the deaths of six Assam police jawans, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on August 1 said that, the state government is ready to talk with the Mizoram government at any point of time to resolve the border issue.
“We are ready to talk with the Mizoram government at any point of time whether it is at Aizawl, Silchar, Guwahati or Delhi. From our side we have no issue. If the Mizoram chief minister asks for any discussion, we are available. We have absolutely no issue,” Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
The Assam chief minister clearly mentioned that “Assam has to protect its boundary and I have to do that.”
“Our main focus is on keeping the spirit of Northeast alive. What happened along the Assam-Mizoram border is unacceptable to the people of both states. Border disputes can only be resolved through discussion,” Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
CM Sarma further said that, Assam wants peace, tranquillity and wants to do development activity for the citizens.
The Assam chief minister’s statement has come after his Mizoram counterpart Zoramthanga on August 1 said: “As per telephonic discussion with Union home minister Amit Shah and Assam chief minister, we agreed to resolve the Mizoram-Assam border issue amicably through meaningful dialogue.”
On the other hand, denying the matter of economic blockade against Mizoram, the Assam chief minister said that, he has not received any phone call from Mizoram that there is any economic blockade.
“If there is any problem, definitely the Mizoram chief minister will call me and I will try my best to see how I can help. But as of now I have not received any telephonic call from anybody,” Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
