Assam on July 21 reported 1680 new COVID-19 cases, taking the total number of active cases in the state to 8672.

Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed that in the last 24 hours, 1680 new cases were detected from the state with Guwahati accounting for 570 of them. The minister further informed that 167 of the fresh cases were detected from Jorhat while 159 of them were from Cachar.

“1680 new #COVID19 patients detected in Assam on July 21.Guwahati reported 570 cases. Jorhat 167, Cachar 159. With 18152 tests carried out in 24 hours, our positivity rate is 9.2%,” the minister had tweeted.

With the detection of the fresh cases, the total tally went up to 26,772 in the state.

Earlier, the minister had informed that 938 patients recovered from the disease and were discharged on July 21. “Patients returning home healthy are our beacon of hope,” the minister said.

The total number of recovered patients in the state now stands at 18,033.

On July 21, Sarma informed that six patients succumbed to COVID-19 related complications. The total death toll due to the disease and related complications in the state now stands at 64.
