Assam reports 53 new COVID-19 cases

Assam on May 23 afternoon reported 53 new COVID-19 cases, taking the total tally in the state to 319 cases.

Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed that 53 new cases were detected from the state. He mentioned that of these, 44 were detected from the Sarusajai quarantine centre in Guwahati, seven from Dima Hasao district and two from Cachar.

Earlier in the day, Sarma informed that six new cases were reported from Sarusajai quarantine centre, who originally belonged to Hojai. Another case was reported from Dhubri.

With these, the total number of cases reported on May 23 climbed to 60 till 1:45 pm.

Now Assam has 258 active cases while 54 others were released from the hospitals after they recovered. Assam reported four deaths. Three patients migrated to other states.
